An Artefact (also Artifact in American English) is an archaeological item of certain value or power. Lara's main focus in the games, movies or comics is often on an artefact that, when in the wrong hands, could be misused and cause a disaster. Some artefacts only play a minor role and are simply used to open doors or activate mechanisms. Some artefacts have to be re-assembled before their power can be revealed. In some of the games Lara has to use the Crowbar to get an artefact out of a receptacle.

Tomb Raider

In the original Tomb Raider Lara's main focus is on an Atlantean artefact, the Scion, which has been split into three pieces.

Other minor artefacts can be found in Peru and Egypt.

Tomb Raider II

Tomb Raider II tells the story of Lara's quest for the Dagger of Xian, an ancient Chinese artefact.

Two minor artefacts are needed to find the dagger; the Seraph which opens a door to the resting place of the Talion, and the Talion which opens the gate to the temple of Xian.

The Golden Mask

In the Tomb Raider II Add-on The Golden Mask Lara searches for the Mask of Tornarsuk.

Tomb Raider III

In Tomb Raider III Lara discovers the Infada Stone in India and is then contracted by the scientist Mark Willard to search for three similar artefacts, all pieces of a meteorite, in London, the South Pacific and Nevada.

The Lost Artifact

In the Tomb Raider II Add-on The Lost Artifact Lara sets out to find a previously unknown fifth meteorite artefact.

The Last Revelation

In The Last Revelation's prologue young Lara sets out with her mentor Werner von Croy in search for the Iris in Angkor Wat, Cambodia. In the game itself Lara discovers the Amulet of Horus and by removing it, accidentally releases Set.

Other minor artefacts are found everywhere in this game.

Tomb Raider Chronicles

Tomb Raider Chronicles tells of four independent quests, each with its own artefact.

Other artefacts are also found on the way.

The Angel of Darkness

In The Angel of Darkness Lara finds encounters several artefacts of importance. She has to stop the Black Alchemist Pieter Van Eckhardt from assembling the Sanglyph, the pieces of which are hidden within the Obscura Paintings.

An artefact with no real importance to the story is the walking stick of Werner von Croy.

Tomb Raider Legend

In Tomb Raider Legend Lara sets out to examine a Stone Dais similar to one she had seen in Nepal in her childhood and suddenly finds herself searching for pieces of the sword Excalibur.

Tomb Raider Anniversary

Tomb Raider Anniversary retells Lara's quest for the Atlantean Scion.

Several relics that serve as secrets can be found within this game.
