Tomb Raider Underworld will begin with the destruction of the Croft Manor and will then look back on what happened before.

In her research Lara learns that her father has been looking for Thor's Hammer, Mjölnir and Thor's Gauntlet. Following his steps, Lara takes her yacht to the Mediterranean. There she explores a temple dedicated to Thor. After a battle against a mythical Kraken Lara is able to obtain Thor's gauntlet. Soon after she's surprised be mercenaries. However she's able to follow them and will then run into two old acquaintances, Amanda Evert and Jacqueline Natla. Lara manages to escape with the gauntlet, but not before learning that she should continue her search in Thailand and that the Nordic underworld Helheim and Avalon are one and the same place. After her trip to Thailand Lara returns to Croft Manor, which will be destroyed during this part of the story. Zip, her long-time friend will turn against her and take Winston hostage. Continuing her search, Lara travels to Mexico, looking for Thor's Belt, which she now knows, she will need to get the hammer. The connection between her search and the Mayan Calendar will be unveiled. Lara will then obtain the belt and travels to Valhalla, where she will finally discover Thor's Hammer. After a short trip in a Viking ship, Lara will then visit the Underworld, fight a final boss, and possibly rescue her mother.
