Salvage is one of the pick-up game play elements in the Tomb Raider Reboot and a common Resource in the sequels Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
Tomb Raider (2013)
In the level Gated, Lara has to "collect salvage to upgrade the axe". She has to find 50 units of salvage. These can be found in crates Lara can smash open. Usually a crate holds 10 units, one crate - that was hidden in a bundle Lara first has to burn down using her Torch - even holds 20. Having collected all necessary salvage, Lara can return to the nearest Base Camp (called The Gate in this instance) to upgrade the axe. ("Collect salvage from various containers to upgrade weapons at base camps.")
Later in the game salvage can be used to upgrade her arsenal of Weapons.
Rise of the Tomb Raider & Shadow of the Tomb Raider
In Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider Salvage is a common resource that can be used to craft other items or upgrade Weapons.
