Trophies are a feature of the PlayStation Network (PSN). They were introduced about a year after the PlayStation 3 had been launched; all following consoles by Sony, like the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation Vita support Trophies. All new games must implement Trophies, but there are still some older games that do not, although it is possible to update games to support them.

The Xbox 360 and Xbox One equivalent is called Achievements, which is also the term used by Steam (for PC games) and Google (for Android games).

Types

There are four different trophy types.

A trophy of the lowest difficulty. These trophies are easier to obtain.
A trophy of medium difficulty. These trophies are a bit trickier to obtain.
A trophy of high difficulty. These trophies might be too difficult to get for some gamers.
A trophy only obtained by collecting all other trophies in a game. These trophies are only found in regular retail games. Trophies of Downloadable Content (DLC) do not have to be obtained to get a platinum trophy.

Tomb Raider Games

The following Tomb Raider Games support Trophies:

Tomb Raider Legend

Tomb Raider Legend for PS3 was not released until March 22nd when it came out as part of the Tomb Raider Trilogy. The game came with a brand new set of Trophies differing from the Xbox 360 Achievements for Tomb Raider Legend.

Tomb Raider Anniversary

Tomb Raider Anniversary for PS3 was not released until March 22nd when it came out as part of the Tomb Raider Trilogy.

Tomb Raider Underworld

At first there were no trophies for Tomb Raider Underworld, the first Tomb Raider Game to be released on PlayStation 3, however these were later added through a patch, coming out May 28th 2009.

Gamers who want to collect all trophies are advised to remove their savegame data completely and then starting a brand new game with the trophy patch installed. Otherwise they will have trouble obtaining the trophies for collecting all secrets.

The trophy patch will render downloaded savegames from other users useless to prevent trophy cheating. To use a savegame by another user anyway, the gamer needs to remove the trophy patch by deleting the game, reinstall the game and remain offline while loading the savegame. Then saving the game again (to gain ownership) and reinstall the trophy patch. A trophy can not be gained or made easier this way.

Tomb Raider (2013)

There is a PS3 version as well as the Definitive Edition for the PS4. The Trophy Sets differ slightly.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

There is no PS3 version of this game and the only version available for the PS4 is the Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration version. It features 125 Trophies.

Lara Croft Games

The following Lara Croft Games support Trophies:

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris
