A big day for the Tomb Raider Fans: Not only does the new Tomb Raider Movie officially get into the cinemas around the world, today Square Enix also announced the title and the release date of the upcoming 11th Tomb Raider Game. The long rumoured title of Shadow of the Tomb Raider has finally been confirmed.

The new game will be released on September 14th 2018 for all major platforms, including Xbox One and One X, PlayStation 4 and PS4 Pro, as well as PC. There will be no renewal of the exclusivity deal for Shadow of the Tomb Raider like there has been with its predecessor.

The stylized O in the title of the game that resembles a solar eclipse has spurred rumours as to the story and whether it is an allusion to the movement of any of the celestial bodies of our solar system.

Announcement History

That something was brewing had been clear ever since a big announcement was put up on the official Tomb Raider website, scheduled for 15 March, 6 am Pacific Daylight Time. No further information was available at first, but taking a closer look at the source code of the page revealed the title and the release date:

This tag line gives hope to those who have been anticipating a Lara Croft that finally steps out of her father's shadow and starts casting her own.

All pre-order incentives and SKUs will be revealed on April 27, 2018

Reveal Date

Most of this was finally corroborated when Sqaure Enix send out an announcement to members of the Official Fansite Program, confirming title and release date. Also, at the announced date the official website was updated and confirmed most suspicions. Furthermore, a reveal trailer and screenshots were posted here as well as on social media.

Path of the Stars Puzzle

Additionally, a puzzle called Path of the Stars will be made available the following Monday, 19 March 2018, further hinting that celestial bodies might play a vital role in the new game. Solving this puzzle does include the chance to win an all-expenses paid trip to the reveal events in April. Every week one new stage (of five planned) of the puzzle will go online, revealing clues about the game. Reveal events will be held on 27 April 2018 in Los Angeles, Montreal, and London.
