Kazakhstan is one of the locations in Lara visits in Tomb Raider Legend and in the second film Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.
It is an Eastern European nation, the 9th largest country on Earth and the largest landlocked country. A former member nation of the Eastern Bloc and the Soviet Union, Kazakhstan was a site of a number of major Soviet military and scientific projects, including hosting the Soviet Union's primary nuclear weapons testing site. It is a neighbouring country of Russia.

In Tomb Raider Legend, Lara comes here following a train Amanda Evert has left during her break in at Croft Manor. Lara first explores military base and then follows Amanda, into a secret laboratory, in the level Kazakhstan - Project Carbonek.

Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life
In the second film, The Cradle of Life, Lara goes to Kazakhstan to retrieve her former love interest, Terry Sheridan who was a former mercenary and Royal Marine who betrayed his country. Lara visits a Kazakh prison Barla Kala, where Terry has resided for the last couple of years and has him released into her custody to help her find the Shay-Ling.
