A Spike Pit is a trap found in most Tomb Raider Games. The first has appeared in the original Tomb Raider.
Tomb Raider Classic
In the classic games a spike pit was simply a pit filled with Floor Spikes.
Tomb Raider Legend
In Tomb Raider Legend, in the level Bolivia - Tiwanaku, Lara enters a temple where the floor vanishes under her feet, to avoid the spike pit below she needs to throw the grapple to a hook on the ceiling.
Tomb Raider Underworld
Several spike pits line the paths through the Mexican Jungle. Lara has to use the ramps to jump over them with her bike.
