Square (Squaresoft, Inc. in North America) was a Japanese video game developer and publisher, founded in 1983. In 2003 the company merged with Enix and together formed Square Enix, which in turn bought Eidos Interactive in 2009 and thus became the current publisher of the Tomb Raider games.
