Dr. Whitman is one of the survivors of the Endurance's ship wreck Lara meets after Sam gets kidnapped by Matthias.

He accompanies Lara when she rests at a camp after getting her foot caught in a bear trap and then sets out to find Conrad Roth, the Endurance's captain. He gets captured together with Lara. His fate is as of now unknown, but it is likely we will see or hear of him again later in the game.
