The Compatibility Mode was introduces with Windows 2000 Service Pack 2. It is only really usable from Windows XP onwards since activating it in 2000 is rather complicated.

The compatibility mode may be required for older Tomb Raider Games. They also might require a Patch to run at all.

Activating Compatibility Mode

To activate the Compatibility Mode, locate the executable program file on your hard disk, e.g. tomb.exe that can be found in the Program folder on your hard drive (not on the CD).

Example: In the folder C:\Program Files\Core Design\Tomb Raider II\" there is a file called "tomb2.exe" - in case of other games you are looking for "tomb3.exe" or "tomb4.exe". If you cannot find files with the .exe file extension, you have probably turned off all file extensions, which is the Windows default.)

After locating the file click the right mouse button and select Properties. Select the appropriate settings for your game - these differ between the games and you will have to find the best settings by trial-and-error.
