The Compatibility Mode was introduces with Windows 2000 Service Pack 2. It is only really usable from Windows XP onwards since activating it in 2000 is rather complicated.

The compatibility mode may be required for older Tomb Raider Games. They also might require a Patch to run at all.

To activate the compatibility mode, find the program file on your hard disk. E.g. locate the tomb.exe that can be found in the Program folder on your hard drive (not on the CD). (Example: c:\program files\Core Design\Tomb Raider II\, find the tomb2.exe - in other cases you are looking for the tomb3.exe or tomb4.exe. If you cannot find this exe, you have probably turned off the file-extensions.) Then press the right mouse button and select Properties'. Select the appropriate settings for your game - these differ between the games and you will have to find the best settings by trial-and-error.
