In the 2013 reboot Sam is a colleague of Lara's. Her last name is as of now unknown. After the ship wreck of the Endurance Lara and Sam get separated. While Lara is captured and strung up in the Scavenger Den Sam roams the island and finds Matthias, a seemingly friendly islander. But soon after Lara finds them he turns out to be in league with the scavengers and he kidnaps her.
