Compound Bow

The Compound Bow is a weapon in Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Tomb Raider (2013)

The Compound Bow is one of the bows in the game. It replaces the Recurve Bow.

The Compound Bow is obtained while the game's story progresses. After reaching Shipwreck Beach and returning Block and Tackle to Jonah Maiava, he gives the Compound Bow to Lara.

The next type of bow in the game is a Competition Bow, which is an upgraded version of the Compound Bow.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

In Rise of the Tomb Raider Lara finds parts of the Compound Bow in four different Strongboxes throughout the various places in the Soviet Installation in Siberia. After finding all pieces she can return any of the Base Camps, assemble the bow, and equip it.

Properties

The Compound Bow trades damage and precision for a decreased hold time, draw speed, and rate of fire. It is not as balanced as the Recurve Bow, but still usable for a wide range of targets. Its flaws can be somewhat mitigated by applying upgrades.

In comparison to the Ancient Horn Bow (and its derivatives) it is still more powerful but suffers from the same problems. The horn bows are more balanced.

As a rule of thumb one should choose the Compound Bow in situation where a lot of fire-power is needed and hold time is irrelevant.
