Lara Croft is the main character in the 2018 reboot movie based on the Reboot Games' time line.

On 29 April 2016 Swedish actress Alicia Vikander was revealed to be the actress playing Lara Croft.

As of now (January 2017), no character background story has been released to the public. From the list of actors published on IMDb one can infer that again her father, Richard Croft will play some role. This is corroborated by the movie's short description:

Lara Croft sets out on her first expedition to finish her father's archaeological research and uncover ancient secrets in order to clear his disgraced name. Tragedy hits when her adventure turns into a fight for survival.
