Grapple from Tomb Raider Legend

The Grapple is part of Lara's gear sinde Tomb Raider Legend.

Tomb Raider Legend

In Tomb Raider Legend Lara uses a magnetic grapple that can be used to swing, pull objects closer.

from the official site

Lara can use this device to climb and maneuver throughout the game. In addition Lara can use the grapple as a weapon by throwing it around an enemy's waist and dragging them into danger, such as a pit, or she can drag them into range for a close range attack.

Using the grapple on objects

Lara can use the grapple in four modes - jump, swing, combat and grapple items.

Jump Grapple

Grapple can also be used in jumps. Tapping the jump button twice will make Lara to hook on a metallic object above her to swing on. Disabled during combat.

Swing Grapple

Lara can use the Grapple to wall run over large pits or caverns. Lara will hook on to a object and wall run to the other side of the cavern.

Combat Mode

Combat mode is to hook Lara's opponent, pull them closer and stun them for Lara's attack. A slight portion of the health will also be taken away from the target. Useful to pull snipers out of their nests. Lara must be in combat mode and lock on a target to use this. It does not work on animals.

Grapple Items

Grapple regular item is done by pressing the grapple key, Lara will automatically connect to the closest metallic objects within her sight. Can also be executed in combination with Manual Aim.

Controls

To use it on PS2 use Square.gif.

Tomb Raider Anniversary

In Anniversary, the grapple is not magnetic and is actually more like a hook; it can be used to grapple onto rings mostly.

Tomb Raider Underworld

Unlike in the previous games, in Tomb Raider Underworld you can also attach the grapple while standing on firm ground. In Croft Manor for example it is better to jump and throw it while you are in the air, because otherwise you might burn your feet.
