The Backpack is one of Lara's most famous props. She has it in each Tomb Raider Game and also in the Movies and in most Comics.
In it Lara stores her Inventory. Her weapons, her infinite ammo, the artefacts and keys she collects, spare clothes, the medipacks... everything she can carry away.
In the level Angkor Wat in The Last Revelation we learn how Lara got her famous brown backpack. She found it along with an unfortunate adventurer in a chamber she had to explore.
