'''Challenge Tombs''' (aka '''Optional Tombs''') are a feature in [[Rise of the Tomb Raider]].

Challenge Tombs are, as in [[Tomb Raider (2013]] before, optional and can be skipped. They do not contain any story elements. These tombs are revealed as soon as [[Lara]] approaches them; again there are wind chimes located near the entrances to these tombs that emit a very distinctive sound. Whenever an Optional Tomb is nearby, a text appears to the screen: ''"Map location updated. Secret tomb nearby."'' Completing an Optional Tomb awards the player with additional [[XP]] and ancient knowledge hidden in a [[Codex]].

In addition to Optional Tombs there are hidden [[Crypts]] in Rise of the Tomb Raider. These are not as huge as tombs and contain the sarcophagus of a founder of [[Kitezh]].
