Jacqueline Natla is a character from the original Tomb Raider (and its remake Tomb Raider Anniversary), making her return in Tomb Raider Underworld.<br><br>

Jacqueline Natla's background
Natla was one of the three legendary Rulers of Atlantis, along with Tihocan and Qualopec. Together they created the Scion, a device of immeasurable power. This device was split into three parts, one for each of the rulers, representing the ruling structure that Atlantis was governed by.

Natla abused this power, however, using the Scion to experiment in genetic engineering and create a new, improved race of Atlanteans. When they learned of this, Tihocan and Qualopec sentenced Natla to eternal imprisonment, freezing her and then burying her in present day New Mexico.

During World War II, the U.S. began testing nuclear weapons in Los Alamos, New Mexico. One of these tests happened to detonate very near to Natla's prison, freeing her from her eternal punishment.

Natla adopted the guise of Jacqueline Natla and founded Natla Technologies, a very successful company which gave her considerable financial backing. With the rest of her people long dead, there was no one to stand in the way of her experiments, and she began to research the whereabouts of the Scion.

Natla's powers, at least in Continuity 2 (Crystal Dynamics, TRA), seem to include superstrength, supernatural firepower, the ability to fly and the ability to teleport. She can also apparently shapeshift and is able to change from human to Atlantean form.

In the original game (TR1, Continuity 1) it is suggested that her wings are a mutant that she wears on her shoulders, and that her ability to shoot fireballs is due to a mutant attached or grafted to her forearm. There is no hint in TR1 that she has the ability to shapeshift or teleport, or that she has superstrength or is immortal. It is arguable that the conversion of Natla from human to superhuman in the style of a DC or Marvel Comics or Disney villianness, demonstrates the move from a British (Core Design) to an American (Crystal Dynamics) aesthetic.

Tomb Raider & Tomb Raider Anniversary
In the Tomb Raider / Anniversary storyline she hired Lara Croft to travel to Peru to uncover Qualopec's third of an artefact called the Scion, but underestimated both Lara's ability and her moral solidarity. When Larson, one of Natla's employees, revealed to Lara that there was more going on than she originally thought, Lara took up the trail of the Scion, unwilling to blindly hand over such a powerful artefact.

Lara travelled from Peru to Greece, and then to an ancient city in Egypt collecting the three pieces of the Scion before Natla could. However, Natla caught up with Lara on a cliff side in Egypt and stole the completed Scion from her. Natla travelled to the great pyramid, an ancient Atlantean construction, to finally complete her experimentation.

Lara infiltrates the great pyramid and finds the control room at the top of an enormous chasm. With Natla's experiments almost complete, Lara shoots the Scion to prevent the ability to create Natla's hideous monsters. Natla jumps on Lara, in an attempt to prevent her from shooting the Scion, but apparently falling to her death far below.

However, Natla is not defeated, she reappears in a final showdown with Lara, this time revealing her true Atlantean heritage. She sports red wings and blasts fire balls at Lara. When she is sufficiently injured she plays dead, lulling Lara into a false sense of security, but will then keep fighting until she is finally killed.

She is an unlockable character in Tomb Raider Anniversary.
Unlockable biography
Collect 41 artifacts in Anniversary and the following biography is unlocked:
* Jacqueline Natla is the owner and CEO of Natla Technologies, one of the world's largest electronics companies. She is the holder of several key computer hardware patents, and her research and development is one of the industry's most secretive and prolific innovators. Little is known about Miss Natla's private life other than she never gives interviews and rarely makes public appearances. Colleagues and business rivals alike say she is intimidatingly intelligent and a demanding perfectionist.
During the final level of Tomb Raider Legend, Bolivia - The Looking Glass crates can be seen with the Natla Industries logo. The boxes were thought to be an Easter egg. However, in Tomb Raider Underworld it is revealed that Amanda has a corporal relationship with Natla.

Jacqueline Natla returns in Tomb Raider Underworld, held prisoner on Amanda's boat in a stasis capsule. Early in the game she tells Lara about Helheim and Avalon being one and the same and informs Lara that she needs Thor's relics to gain access. After visiting Jan Mayen Island to retrieve Thor's Hammer, she sets off to the Andaman Sea on the coast of Thailand to find Amanda's ship again. Lara confronts and threatens to kill Natla, but is stopped when Natla explains that a ritual is also needed to open the gates of Helheim; a ritual that only Natla knows. Realising she has no choice if she wants to enter Helheim/Avalon, Lara then smashes the capsule open, allowing Natla to escape. After arriving at Avalon, Natla reveals that she was manipulating Lara to reach an ancient device called the Midgard Serpent to bring about the 'Seventh Age.' She also claims that she killed Lara's father in Thailand after he betrayed her. Lara manages to destroy the Jörmungandr Mechanism, and then knocks Natla into the Eitr surrounding the device by throwing Thor's Hammer at her.

After Tomb Raider Underworld
Beneath the Ashes story - see separate article

Natla is not a character in Beneath the Ashes; however, it is suggested that she is still alive. In the final scene of Beneath the Ashes, Lara has learned to control both the Thralls and the Doppelganger . After Lara establishes that the Doppelganger has to obey her, the camera shifts and it is not possible to hear what mission Lara gives the Doppelganger. However when the camera returns Lara is saying "Make sure Natla suffers". As the Doppelganger leaves the room Zip says "You're letting her go? She killed Alister!", and Lara replies "And now, she is an instrument of his vengeance".

Lara's Shadow

In the second cutscene of Lara's Shadow, the Doppelganger comes across Natla in Helheim; Natla has suffered severe injuries, presumably from Thor's Hammer and from immersion in Eitr. Using the words "Ohk Ehsivar" Natla orders the Doppelganger to help her back to the pod device that the Doppelganger was created in. Natla instructs the Doppelganger to reactivate the pod and waits slumped inside, presumably waiting for some regeneration process to begin. She gives the Doppelganger some final orders, namely to kill Lara and then to commit suicide, the latter appearing to disconcert the Doppelganger somewhat. Four days later beneath the Croft Manor (see Beneath the Ashes) Lara somehow frees the Doppelganger from the control of the magic words "Ohk Ehsivar" and suggests that the newly independent Doppelganger should "make Natla suffer". The Doppelganger returns to Helheim and turns Natla's pod device off. Natla falls to the ground, gets crushed underneath some rocks and finally is left lying in a pool of Eitr. When the Doppelganger approaches, Natla again orders her to help. However the Doppelganger thinks back to what Lara has told her - "You are no longer a slave" (we see a flashback) - and does not obey. Natla realizes she is in trouble and calls for the Thralls to save her, but they don't show up. Natla screams and presumably dies. We see a close-up of the Doppelganger's face: she smiles.
<br><br>

<br>
From Darth Max Some fans believe that Natla is not dead yet, only buried. The producers' decision to have Natla perish at the hands of the Doppelganger and to place this event on an exclusive Xbox 360 DLC has displeased some fans, who would rather believe that she'll return.
Voices
* Grey DeLisle (Tomb Raider Anniversary), (Tomb Raider Underworld).
* Thought to be either Vicky Arnold or Susie Hamilton in Tomb Raider [reference to be added].

Miscellaneous facts
* A "scorched Natla" outfit is unlockable in Anniversary.
* Natla has featured in a number of Tomb Raider fan fiction stories, including "GM" and "The Dead" by Ostercy and "An Eye For An Eye" by Dr. Amazing, the latter being the winning entry in a Natla story writing competition, The Second Village of Tokakeriby TR Story Competition, 2002
* The Aramaic word "natla" (נטלא) means "the vessel used for washing hands". Another possible etymology of "natla" says it derives from "נטל " and should be viewed literally as "that which is lifted" or "that which is taken". (S. Fränkel, "Aramäische Fremdwörter im Arabischen," p. 65, and On Semitic Words in Greek and Latin W. Muss-Arnolt Transactions of the American Philological Association Vol. 23, (1892), pp. 35-156)
* There are some similarities between Natla and Ayesha, immortal anti-heroine of Rider Haggard's novel She . To quote Wikipedia; In the original novel, Ayesha is to a great extent selfish and amoral, caring very little for the feelings or even the lives of others so long as she gets what she wants. However, it is evident that, in the course of writing the novel, Haggard moved away from a purer conception of feminine evil. Indeed, one sees the process of transition fossilized in this sentence from the chapter entitled “Ayesha Unveils” - "I have heard of the beauty of celestial beings, now I saw it; only this beauty, with all its awful loveliness and purity, was evil — at least, at the time, it struck me as evil."
* Jacqueline Natla of Natla Technologies seems to be an early example of a character type popular in recent science fiction, a sinister female CEO of a sinister research multinational. Other examples include Catherine Weaver, the co-founder and current CEO of ZeiraCorp in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Nina Sharp, the shady co-owner of Massive Dynamic, a science and technology research organisation, in Fringe .
The character playing the main role in Tomb Raider Legend, besides Lara, is her former friend Amanda Evert. At first it is unknown that she is such an important figure in the storyline as she hides behind James Rutland and his mercenaries. Another foe Lara encounters is the Yakuza Shogo Takamoto who stands between her and a piece of Excalibur. Lara is supported by many friends in this adventure; her butler Winston, her two assistants Zip and Alister and her friends Anaya and Toru Nishimura. The story centres around Lara's search for her mother Amelia Croft who is often mentioned and seen in flashbacks.
Tomb Raider Legend

Jacqueline Natla is a character from the original Tomb Raider (and its remake Tomb Raider Anniversary), making her return in Tomb Raider Underworld.

Jacqueline Natla's background
Natla was one of the three legendary Rulers of Atlantis, along with Tihocan and Qualopec. Together they created the Scion, a device of immeasurable power. This device was split into three parts, one for each of the rulers, representing the democracy that Atlantis lived by.

Tomb Raider Legend
During the final level of Tomb Raider Legend, Bolivia - The Looking Glass crates can be seen with the Natla Industries logo. These have led to speculations if there might be connections between Natla and the storyline of Legend; something hopefully revealed in Tomb Raider Underworld.

Tomb Raider Underworld
edit

Jacqueline Natla returns in Tomb Raider Underworld. Through manipulation of Lara and Amanda, Natla opens the gates of Helheim. In Helheim, after Lara finds that her mother has been turned into a Thrall, Natla claims that she killed Richard Croft because he betrayed her in Thailand. She leaves Lara's Doppleganger to kill Lara, who is saved by Amanda. Lara proceeds to the next set of chambers, where she finds the Jörmungandr Mechanism, a huge device that Natla plans use to create catastrophic volcanic explosions on the planet's surface. Natla attempts to kill Lara as the latter attempts to disable the Mechanism. Natla lands and attempts to stabilize the device but is prevented by Lara, who throws the Mjolnir causing Natla to fall, presumably into the Eitr pool.

Natla's final fate remains unknown at the end of the game. There is a good deal of fan speculation that there is a connection between Atlantis, the Norse civilization and the Norse Underworld.

Tomb Raider Legend Characters

Lara proceeds to the next set of chambers, where she finds the Jőrmungandr Mechanism, a huge device that Natla plans use to create catastrophic volcanic explosions on the planet's surface.

Atlantean Lara Copy (also known as Doppelganger; and by fans often called Bacon Lara due to its looks) is an Atlantean copy of Lara Croft and can be seen as an immortal Enemy.

This copy is encountered in the Atlantis / Lost Island part of Tomb Raider / Tomb Raider Anniversary. It has the red skinned, hairless appearance of all Atlantean "mutants", but is noticeably female. It mimics Lara's movements exactly, like a mirror image. It is unaggressive, and cannot be killed by conventional means, as any damage done (caused by Lara shooting at it), is inflicted on Lara as well. So if the Doppelganger is killed this way, Lara dies too. Lara manages to outsmart the Atlantean by tricking it into a pit of lava covered by a trapdoor.

In Tomb Raider, it seems to shoot bullets - although it has no guns, the same animations are used for it as for Lara. However in Tomb Raider Anniversary, it shoots fireballs (which still inflict damage equal to that caused by Lara's bullets).

There are differences between Lara and the Atlantean copy; one is that Doppelganger/Bacon Lara does not have the equipment Lara does, like guns or backpack. More obviously it does not have hair, skin, clothing or shoes.
<br><br><br>

In Underworld
In Tomb Raider Underworld, Natla sends the doppelgänger to Lara's mansion under Amanda's orders to retrieve her Wraith Stone. By blowing up the vault, she sends Croft Manor into flames before shooting Zip in the leg. Waiting for Lara to get down to the main hall, she approaches her as she investigates the Tech Room. Copying Lara's moves, she turns and shoots Alister in the chest when he comes out of a room. Disarming and disabling Lara, she takes off and heads back to Amanda to give her the stone. Later, in the Andaman Sea, Lara is about to free Natla when Amanda stops her. The doppelgänger throws Amanda into the depths of the ship so Lara can free Natla, therefore allowing her to open the way to Helheim. In Helheim, the doppelgänger stops Lara from killing Natla. Ready to kill Lara, Amanda appears and uses the power of the Wraith Stone to throw the doppelgänger into the void of Jormungandr's poison, Eitr.

Fan speculation
<center></center><br>
One possible explanation for the Doppleganger's existence is that it was a trap specifically designed by the Atlanteans and/or Natla to trick Lara into killing herself, or at least make it impossible for her to pass due to the placement of various switches and pressure pads around the room that the copy would operate by mirroring Lara's actions. However, given that Natla probably assumes that Lara has been killed after diving from the cliff outside the Sanctuary of the Scion and that the Atlanteans have never seen Lara before, it seems unlikely that the mutant would be hatched on the off chance that Lara would show up. Although the mutant mimics Lara's movements - maybe it has just hatched and is learning or "programming" itself by copying the first thing that it sees - it doesn't resemble Lara particularly in TR1, and its encounter with Lara may just be an unfortunate accident.

Amanda and Lara were once exploring a ruined temple together, when they were attacked by a monster. Amanda activated a door-mechanism, which caused the monster to disappear, but also started the collapse of the building. A huge rock buried Amanda's foot and she could not free herself. Lara managed to stop the door from closing for some, but when Amanda couldn't free herself and the water rose over her head, Lara lost her strength and had to let go. Amanda presumably drowned, while Lara got away.

However, as Lara finds out in Kazakhstan, Amanda survived in the tomb in Peru, with the help of the Unknown Entity. Amanda returns into Lara's life as a formidable adversary determined to harness the power of Excalibur for herself. It is later revealed that Amanda indirectly caused the death of Lara's mother.
On the outside, Amanda Evert was a graduate student of social anthropology; on the inside, she was an intense chronicler of the metaphysical. She believed wholeheartedly that the common notion of reality is nothing but a thin, drab layer pulled over the infinite truth of the soul. She studied every religious and mystical system in the world, past and present, and while still at university was already something of an expert on theology and mysticism. She had a pet theory that fragments of a single, long forgotten mystical belief system exist within the rites and rituals of shamanism, witchcraft and many religions. Her dream was to rediscover this supreme knowledge from the past and teach it to people so they could gain spiritual enlightenment. At the time it seemed more like a youthful dalliance than a true obsession; something Lara considered harmless. She was undoubtedly comfortable with exploring beyond the boundaries of scientific inquiry, but she was also a brilliant researcher who was still in touch with the modern world. She was young, a bit bookish, not too self-confident, and a bit of a hippy. Her relationship with Lara is typified by playful philosophical banter; they disagreed, but they crossed intellectual swords without becoming exasperated or angry at the others' firm viewpoint.

Then one day in Peru, while excavating a tomb Lara believed contained the last queen of Tiwanaku, her team of graduate students breeched a new room and all hell broke loose. Lara was the only one to return to the surface, where the team's structural engineer, Anaya Imanu, listened in horror to Lara's story of how a malevolent entity of some kind slaughtered everyone in the tomb, except for Lara and Amanda. But as the two tried to escape, Amanda set off a trap that sealed the room, brought down the roof, and drowned Amanda.
Tomb Raider Underworld
Amanda makes a return in Tomb Raider Underworld, working with Jacqueline Natla, pursuing Lara who is trying to unite the pieces of Thor's hammer . In the end, Amanda helps Lara save the world by holding back Thralls with her Wraith Stone from Tomb Raider Legend.

While capturing Natla from her mortal prison that Lara has left her in the end of Tomb Raider Anniversary, only to imprison her once again. Natla, in the beginning had Amanda interested enough in Avalon to start searching for the pieces of Excalibur, and take down Lara in the process. Failing to do so in Tomb Raider Legend, she found another way to get in.

Following Lara to the Mediterranean Sea, Amanda sends a team of mercenaries after Lara who steal Thor's Gauntlet right after Lara uncovered it. Setting an explosive in the temple, the mercenary leader tells Lara that Amanda sends her regards before detonating it, this being Amanda's way of revenge against Lara - the same way Amanda was trapped in the Peruvian temple in Tomb Raider Legend.

Lara finds Amanda with Natla and after getting answers from the Atlantean queen, Lara escapes the ship and fires at Amanda, scoring a gash along her cheek from the bullet. Amanda threw the gauntlet into the water as it's no use to her now, but Lara retrieved it in time.

During Lara's adventure in Thailand, Amanda has Natla create her a doppelgänger, and sends it to Lara's manor in England to retrieve her Wraith Stone. Doing so, the doppelgänger reaches the manor just as Lara arrives and does some excavating in the Croft catacombs. Above ground, the deadly facsimile of Lara shoots Zip in the leg before blowing open the vault and stealing the stone, sending Croft Manor to flames. Finding Lara, the doppelgänger shoots Alister before fighting Lara, causing her to waste time so she couldn't save him.

The next time we see Amanda is in the Andaman Sea in Thailand on her second ship, the Tisiphone, the sister to the first. Lara climbs on board having recovered all four artifacts - Thor's two gauntlets, his belt, and his hammer, Mjolnir - and confronts Natla. Learning that only the Atlantean can open the doors to Helheim, Lara is about to smash the glass of the prison when Amanda and the doppelgänger come in. Amanda and Lara are poised to fight, but Lara's evil lookalike intervenes and throws Amanda over the railing into the depths below. On her way down, Amanda hits her head hard and tumbles the rest of the way - we'd presume she was dead.

In the Arctic Circle, Amanda follows Natla into Helheim just as Lara confronted her mother and listened in on their conversation. Hearing what Natla tells Lara, she becomes frustrated that she was so foolish as to let Natla use her for her own gain. As Natla leaves to raise the Midgard Serpent, the doppelgänger is about to kill Lara when Amanda uses the powers of the Wraith Stone to hurl the clone into Jormungandr's poison, killing it. Telling Lara that as much as she wanted to let the clone kill her, the Midgard Serpent will tear the world apart, and only Mjolnir can stop it. Despite Amanda's wanting to get to Avalon/Helheim, destroying the world was not her plan. All she wanted was knowledge.

As Lara disables the Midgard Serpent, Amanda holds off the endless wave of thralls. Falling off a five foot high ledge and landing on her leg, Amanda hurts it bad enough to have to limp. She continues to hold off thralls until Natla throws a fireball at her, the explosion sending Amanda flying forward. Landing hard, Amanda is knocked unconscious. After Lara kills Natla and destroys the machine, she helps Amanda up who tries to unblock the corridor, but the Wraith Stone was out of juice, just like in Bolivia in Tomb Raider Legend.

Making a remark that now the two of them were going to die in Helheim like Amelia, Lara goes to punch Amanda but stops when she's struck with sudden realization. Finding the stone dais and the Excalibur sword stuck inside, Lara thought that her mother must have tried to use it, but didn't know how. Holding a section of the dais in place, Lara trusts Amanda to pull the sword out and grab Lara's hand in time to send them to safety. Amanda has mixed emotions and briefly thinks about leaving Lara there to exact her revenge, but pulls the sword out and grabs Lara's hand.

The two land in Nepal, where Amelia first pulled out the sword. Lara noticed that Amanda's stone was flaming with power, and asked if killing her would make them even. Amanda considered Lara's words before allowing the stone to dissipate and leaving the temple. It's currently unknown if Lara and Amanda will become friends again, or if this is the last we see of Amanda, if she chooses to drop out of Lara's life for good.
==Development Process==

In November 2007, Eidos was reported to have filed for a trademark on the phrase, Tomb Raider Underworld. Eidos soon after reserved the Tomb Raider Underworld domain name. In December 2007, Eidos filed for a second trademark for Tomb Raider Underworld, reserving the right to provide "computer games that may be accessed network-wide by network users." In the January 2008 issue of the magazine Play, details from the "first-ever demo" of the game were revealed. SCi, which owns Eidos, officially announced Tomb Raider: Underworld on January 10, 2008, and confirmed that all platform versions of the game will be released simultaneously in November 2008.

Play's assertions that this is the "first true next gen Lara" and "one big physics smorgasbord" which "looks altogether photo-real" led to speculation that Tomb Raider: Underworld might be using a new game engine for its next-generation graphics rather than the system used by Tomb Raider: Legend, Tomb Raider: Anniversary and Deus Ex 3. Later, the Senior Producer and External Designer separately confirmed that Underworld uses an all-new engine that was built especially for it.

Keeley Hawes will provide the voice of Lara in this installment, as she did in Anniversary and Legend.

Lara's costume has been redesigned and she no longer wears her trademark blue sleeveless top and khaki shorts, but instead, a dark brown halter top and black shorts. Additionally, her hair is no longer braided, but worn in a ponytail. According to Play, Lara "moves as good as she looks [and] no longer moves like a video game character" thanks to being fully motion captured. Olympic gymnast and NCAA Women's Gymnastics champion Heidi Moneymaker was the model used for motion capturing.

A teaser trailer was released on 19 July 2008, displaying a chronologically backwards video of Croft Manor being destroyed. The trailer starts zoomed in on her signature weapons: her twin pistols, which are covered in ash and lying on Zip's computer desk. As the camera reverses out, it displays parts of the main hall covered in debris and ash. The camera continues to reverse out, flying through the main window of the hall, with the pieces of glass flying back into place, finally reversing far enough to show Lara facing the house with her back to the camera. As the camera stops, time starts again, with rain and rolling thunder surrounding Lara and the mansion. Lara turns towards the camera with a cold look on her face and she presses the trigger - blowing up Croft Manor. Lara walks off the side of the camera, and the final shot shows Croft Mansion burning.

A gameplay trailer was released on 15 August 2008. It features Lara in various locations - Mexico, Thailand and what appears to be her own manor as it burns down. In the trailer, Zip shoots at Lara with a gun, Lara then draws her pistols and shouts "Drop it Zip or I'll drop you". At the climax of the trailer, Lara walks into a laboratory-like room as the screen turns to black, and then Natla's voice is heard saying "I'm very pleased to see you again, Lara", before the final release date screen shows.

Gameplay
Differences from previous iterations in the series are that Lara's environment will be an "interactive world that reacts and remembers". Such as footprints left in the mud, or mud transferred to Lara's knee from kneeling on the ground will be washed away by rain, the bodies of the foes she encounters will remain where she killed them, and any destruction to the environment she causes will be permanent. According to creative director Eric Lindstrom, this is "to not only reward the player for the effect they're having on the world, but to give them navigational aids." The game uses an animation blending system that allows Lara to interact dynamically with her environment, such as pushing foliage aside with one or two hands, depending on if she is carrying a weapon. It also features a "hybrid lighting model that combines dynamic lights with carefully created light maps" and a weather system that changes the environment, for example, "If Lara’s negotiating a wet ledge she’s more apt to slip or lose grip," which makes "the environment ... her adversary" for a large part of the game.

Previously seen separate aspects of gameplay have been combined together for a new experience. Lindstrom explained that "in the past, there was climbing, and there was shooting, and there was puzzle solving. And they often didn't overlap. We've now integrated all of those elements." This installment also features a new melee combat system, requiring Lara in some instances to use "direct combat and evasive manoeuvres to distance herself from her attacker". Notably, Lara's bike, among other things, will be a key component in solving the puzzles she will encounter in her adventure. Pick-ups will have multiple uses as weapons and tools in interaction with the environment, and Lindstrom stated that Lara "can also split up her guns and fire at two different targets simultaneously," or hold an item with one hand and fire a gun with the other. The grappling hook can now be stretched taut and used to push objects off ledges unlike in previous iterations, illustrating what project lead Rob Pavey said, that "Lara will be able to do anything that you'd expect her to be able to do," which he called "the big theme this year." Lindstrom describes this as "a philosophy called 'What Could Lara Do?'—WCLD. It's short-hand for having the player be able to use their own intuition about what someone with her abilities should be able to do in an environment such as this, and consistency across the different mechanics and abilities. If she can throw a grenade, then if she can pick up this pole, why can't she throw it?" Crystal Dynamics also aims to make the game non-linear, unlike Tomb Raider: Legend, and eliminate the need for hint icons that indicate the ability to interact with objects.

The interactive cutscenes from previous titles have been replaced with "adrenaline moments". Instead of specific button presses, time slows down and gives the player a chance to get out of harm's way while retaining complete control of Lara.

Lara will now have over 1700 moves, including new combat or climbing methods and fancy moves. Lara now:
Story
Tomb Raider Underworld Story
For generations, stories have been told of the fearsome weapon of the Norse god Thor. Legend holds that he who wields the hammer has the power to smash mountains into valleys and the strength to destroy even the gods. For more than a thousand years it has existed only as a myth…until now.

In an ancient ruin on the floor of the Mediterranean Sea, Lara Croft uncovers proof of the Norse underworld and the mythical hammer. As she attempts to unravel the secrets behind these myths, Lara's perilous journey leads her toward a forgotten power that, if unleashed, could lay waste to all civilization.

Continuing where Tomb Raider Legend left off, Lara attempts to discover a portal into Avalon and save her mother... with one complication: the return of an old immortal enemy.

<br clear="all" />

<br clear="all" />

Tomb Raider Underworld
Natla will reappear in Tomb Raider Underworld; however her physical appearance has not been shown yet.

{{spoil|Lara runs into Jacqueline Natla at the end of the Mediterranean section, after retrieving Thor's Gauntlet. She enters a cargo hold where she finds a glass tank in its centre. She approaches the glass tube and is heard saying "No..!" the screen gets dark and Natla's voice is heard, saying "I'm very pleased to see you again Lara". It is later revealed that in this cargo hold Lara runs into Amanda Evert who tries to revive Natla using the gauntlets.
Fan Speculation About Underworld
Trivia
* Natla is the tallest female character in the Tomb Raider series.
* Amanda Evert's can be Natla's daughter or sister, or just simply an alliee.
* Natla is the most powerful and main villain in all of the Tomb Raider games.

<br clear="all" />

Some fans even believe that they point to a possible relation between Natla and Amanda, as both women look similar, notably that Natla can be Amanda's mother or sister.
<br clear="all" />

Tomb Raider Underworld
Natla will reappear in Tomb Raider Underworld; however her physical appearance has not been shown yet. At the end of the second trailer, in the Mediterranean section, Lara arrives at a chamber with a tank in its centre. She approaches it and says "No..!" the screen gets dark and Natla's voice is heard, saying "I'm very pleased to see you again Lara".

Fan Speculation About Underworld
*It has been revealed that Lara will be looking for Thor's hammer to kill a god, possibly Natla. It is unknown if Natla will be Underworld's main villain or if she will be the only one in the game. Natla will also be in search for the Mjolnir, which she will most likely use to bring about Ragnarok and finally start the seventh age.

*In the Mediterranean level Lara is knocked out by a mercenary after recovering Thor's Gauntlet. Awaking in time, she pursues him and he directly lead her to Natla's boat, where she is being held in a cryogenic glass chamber. She tells Lara about Avalon and Xibalba being the same place; Helheim, which leads her to Thailand. Whilst meeting with Natla, Lara discovers Amanda Evert with her, who steals Thor's Gauntlet from Lara. In pursuit, Lara shoots Amanda in the hand, making her drop the gauntlet. Lara recovers it, but Amanda and Natla escape.

*Natla is clearly still healing from her battle with Lara, but she and Amanda will still be going after her in-game. Fighting Natla will most likely be the boss fight that the cutscene names suggest.

Some fans even believe that they point to a possible relation between Natla and Amanda, as both women look similar, notably that Natla can be Amanda's daughter or sister.
<br clear="all" />

Amanda Evert is a friend of Lara's. She's mentioned in Tomb Raider Legend.

She is the first gothic female to appear in a Tomb Raider game.
