Grapple Gun (Underworld)
This state-of-the-art multi purpose Grapple Gun is used by Lara in Tomb Raider Underworld. It has a high-tension swing line with a tensile strength in excess of 1000 kg., this high grade, stainless steel grappling hook can be fired quickly and accurately with a lightning fast, auto-retract safety. Unlike the Tomb Raider: Legend grapple the grapple gun utilises a grapple hook rather than an electro magnetic pad. The cable is able to twist and contort to its surrounding such as in certain situations Lara must wrap the cable arround certain objects to continue her path or activate a mechinism.
Description from the official site
Zip is the tech guy of Lara's team, responsible for providing technical and logistical support for Lara's endeavors worldwide - he's the guy in the van or the server room at Lara's Mansion, and Lara's constant remote companion via radio headset. A wisecracking guy who's part ultra-techno-geek and part street savvy. He used to be over the top, but a few years in prison toned him down a notch and increased his resentment towards all things establishment. A former computer hacker, he works with Lara for the challenge and the thrill of it. He's personally loyal to Lara, and it really is the most fun he can have without getting arrested.

PAGENAME is the fluid of life in Nordic mythology, and is the origin of all living things. The first giant Ymir was conceived from eitr. The substance is supposed to be very poisonous and is produced by Jörmungandr (the Midgard Serpent) and other serpents. The word eitr exists in most North Germanic languages (all derived from the Old Norse language) in Icelandic eitur, in Danish edder, in Swedish etter. Cognates also exist in Dutch ether, in German Eiter (lit. pus), in Old Saxon ĕttar, in Old English ăttor. The meaning of the word is very broad: poisonous, evil, bad, angry, sinister, etc., and according to Wikipedia the word is used in common Scandinavian folklore as a synonym for snake poison .

From Teutonic Mythology by Viktor Rydberg ;

Eitr means the lowest degree of cold and poison at the same time ... tongues were made speechless with cold. In Saxo’s descriptions of the regions of misery in the lower world, it is only the torturing demons that speak. The dead are speechless, and suffer their agonies without uttering a sound; but, when the spirits of torture so desire, and force and egg them on, they can produce a howl.

The Thralls are born from this fluid. It has a bright blue color, and is found in Helheim. During the climax of Underworld, Amelia Croft, the Doppelganger and Natla all take an unwanted bath in Eitr. <br>
If Eitr creates Thralls, then presumably Amelia - who already is a Thrall - would have been unharmed by the experience as Thralls are able to walk through the pools with reletive ease.
[[Image:Xibalba.jpg|thumb|The lords of Xibalba from a Honduran manuscript ]]

In the mythology of the Maya of Middle America, Xibalba (place of fright) was an underground realm of the dead. Caves and pools of water served as entry points to the realm. During the later part of its history, the Mayan empire was sometimes called the empire of Xibalba.

A story recorded in the Popol Vuh, the sacred book of the Maya, tells of a visit to Xibalba by the Hero Twins, Hunahpú and Xbalanqúe. Much earlier their father and uncle, also twins, had been summoned by the powerful lords of Xibalba. Disturbed by the brothers' ball playing on earth, the lords had invited them to the underworld for a ball game and then killed them.

Later Hunahpú and Xbalanqúe were also ordered to come to Xibalba. There they passed through a series of trials in various houses, and in each house they faced a test of their wits, strength, and courage. In the Dark House, for example, they had to endure darkness. In the Razor House they "tamed" the blades that were supposed to kill them and persuaded the cutting ants to bring them flowers, which they presented to the lords of Xibalba.

The Hero Twins eventually tricked and killed the lords of Xibalba. The people of the underworld surrendered to the twins, who sentenced them to pass their time making pottery and other humble tools rather than playing ball. The Hero Twins escaped from the underworld through their cleverness and determination, setting an example that the souls of kings and nobles could try to follow.<br>
Natla then attempts to restabilize it, but is prevented as Lara throws Thor's Hammer at her, causing her to fall into the void pit, problably dead(though judging on how natla continually comes back this may not be the case as her death was not confirmed).
In Mythology,the belt doubles Thor's already mighty strenght,in the game it actually powers the two gauntlets.

Following her father's map,Lara travels to southern Mexico to find the Belt,there she discovers a secret passage to the Mayan underworld, Xibalba where the belt is carefully hidden and protected by the dead, or otherwise known as Thralls.

Like the other gauntlets, most of the artifact falls apart when Lara touches it, leaving only the original piece intact, which Lara places on her own belt buckle, imediatly activating it and powering the gauntlets.
Thor's Gauntlets are one of the artifacts collected by Lara in Tomb Raider Underworld. She comes across the first one in the Mediterranean level, after fighting the Kraken.

Legend has it that Thor needed the gauntlet, along with a mythical belt to wield his hammer Mjolnir. When she first finds the gauntlet, Lara notices that it looks a bit like an ordinary glove. However after she touches it, the glove falls apart, leaving only a small piece intact.

The first gauntlet is found by Lara in Niflheim,where it is stolen by a mercenary but shortly after recovered,the second gauntlet was originally in Thailand,but was recovered by Richard Croft and taken safely to a secret room in the Croft manor.

When activated,the glove adquires the exact shape of the person's hand,making it impossible for anyone else to use it.Natla claims that even killing the person who activate it won't unbind the artifact.

However in the game,the gauntlets seem to work more as insulated gloves to the hammer's powers,rather than sustainig its weight,as Lara can easly host it in her backpack,proving it is not so heavy.

Lara uses them several times in the game to move heavy objects,some of the entrances and exits of temples Lara visits can only be moved with the gauntlets.

Powers
The guantlets allow the wearer to wield Mjolnir, thor's hammer. without them it would be rendered usless as its impossible to use otherwise.The gauntlets also bestow appearingly enhanced strength, though in reality the gauntlets react with a certain type of rock making the mass of the rock incredibly less, thus enableing the wearer to move what appears to be collosal amounts of weight. When the guantlets react with the rock, they and the rock give of a blue glow and a smooth humming noise.

Amanda Evert was once a friend of Lara's. She plays an important role in Tomb Raider Legend and Tomb Raider Underworld.

Amanda and Lara were once exploring a ruined temple together, when they were attacked by a monster. Amanda activated a door-mechanism, which caused the monster to disappear, but also started the collapse of the building. A huge rock buried Amanda's foot and she could not free herself. Lara managed to stop the door from closing for some, but when Amanda couldn't free herself and the water rose over her head, Lara lost her strength and had to let go. Amanda presumably drowned, while Lara got away.

However, as Lara finds out in Kazakhstan, Amanda survived in the tomb in Peru, with the help of the Unknown Entity. Amanda returns into Lara's life as a formidable adversary determined to harness the power of Excalibur for herself. It is later revealed that Amanda indirectly caused the death of Lara's mother.

Unlockable Outfits
By beating the Ghana and Kasakhstan Time Trials two special Outfits, the Amanda Outfit and the Amanda, Winter Outfit, are unlocked. You can replay levels as Amanda this way. This explains, why Amanda can be seen in images, wearing part of Lara's gear. In this case it is just another Outfit for Lara and will speak with her regular voice, not with Amanda's.

From the official site
On the outside, Amanda Evert was a graduate student of social anthropology; on the inside, she was an intense chronicler of the metaphysical. She believed wholeheartedly that the common notion of reality is nothing but a thin, drab layer pulled over the infinite truth of the soul. She studied every religious and mystical system in the world, past and present, and while still at university was already something of an expert on theology and mysticism. She had a pet theory that fragments of a single, long forgotten mystical belief system exist within the rites and rituals of shamanism, witchcraft and many religions. Her dream was to rediscover this supreme knowledge from the past and teach it to people so they could gain spiritual enlightenment. At the time it seemed more like a youthful dalliance than a true obsession; something Lara considered harmless. She was undoubtedly comfortable with exploring beyond the boundaries of scientific inquiry, but she was also a brilliant researcher who was still in touch with the modern world. She was young, a bit bookish, not too self-confident, and a bit of a hippy. Her relationship with Lara is typified by playful philosophical banter; they disagreed, but they crossed intellectual swords without becoming exasperated or angry at the others' firm viewpoint.

Then one day in Peru, while excavating a tomb Lara believed contained the last queen of Tiwanaku, her team of graduate students breeched a new room and all hell broke loose. Lara was the only one to return to the surface, where the team's structural engineer, Anaya Imanu, listened in horror to Lara's story of how a malevolent entity of some kind slaughtered everyone in the tomb, except for Lara and Amanda. But as the two tried to escape, Amanda set off a trap that sealed the room, brought down the roof, and drowned Amanda.

Tomb Raider Underworld
Amanda makes a return in Tomb Raider Underworld, working with Jacqueline Natla, pursuing Lara who is trying to unite the pieces of Thor's hammer . In the end, Amanda helps Lara save the world by holding back Thralls with her Wraith Stone from Tomb Raider Legend.

While capturing Natla from her mortal prison that Lara has left her in the end of Tomb Raider Anniversary, only to imprison her once again. Natla, in the beginning had Amanda interested enough in Avalon to start searching for the pieces of Excalibur, and take down Lara in the process. Failing to do so in Tomb Raider Legend, she found another way to get in.

Following Lara to the Mediterranean Sea, Amanda sends a team of mercenaries after Lara who steal Thor's Gauntlet right after Lara uncovered it. Setting an explosive in the temple, the mercenary leader tells Lara that Amanda sends her regards before detonating it, this being Amanda's way of revenge against Lara - the same way Amanda was trapped in the Peruvian temple in Tomb Raider Legend.

Lara finds Amanda with Natla and after getting answers from the Atlantean queen, Lara escapes the ship and fires at Amanda, scoring a gash along her cheek from the bullet. Amanda threw the gauntlet into the water as it's no use to her now, but Lara retrieved it in time.

During Lara's adventure in Thailand, Amanda has Natla create her a doppelgänger, and sends it to Lara's manor in England to retrieve her Wraith Stone. Doing so, the doppelgänger reaches the manor just as Lara arrives and does some excavating in the Croft catacombs. Above ground, the deadly facsimile of Lara shoots Zip in the leg before blowing open the vault and stealing the stone, sending Croft Manor to flames. Finding Lara, the doppelgänger shoots Alister before fighting Lara, causing her to waste time so she couldn't save him.

The next time we see Amanda is in the Andaman Sea in Thailand on her second ship, the Tisiphone, the sister to the first. Lara climbs on board having recovered all four artifacts - Thor's two gauntlets, his belt, and his hammer, Mjolnir - and confronts Natla. Learning that only the Atlantean can open the doors to Helheim, Lara is about to smash the glass of the prison when Amanda and the doppelgänger come in. Amanda and Lara are poised to fight, but Lara's evil lookalike intervenes and throws Amanda over the railing into the depths below. On her way down, Amanda hits her head hard and tumbles the rest of the way - we'd presume she was dead.

In the Arctic Circle, Amanda follows Natla into Helheim just as Lara confronted her mother and listened in on their conversation. Hearing what Natla tells Lara, she becomes frustrated that she was so foolish as to let Natla use her for her own gain. As Natla leaves to raise the Midgard Serpent, the doppelgänger is about to kill Lara when Amanda uses the powers of the Wraith Stone to hurl the clone into Jormungandr's poison, killing it. Telling Lara that as much as she wanted to let the clone kill her, the Midgard Serpent will tear the world apart, and only Mjolnir can stop it. Despite Amanda's wanting to get to Avalon/Helheim, destroying the world was not her plan. All she wanted was knowledge.

As Lara disables the Midgard Serpent, Amanda holds off the endless wave of thralls. Falling off a five foot high ledge and landing on her leg, Amanda hurts it bad enough to have to limp. She continues to hold off thralls until Natla throws a fireball at her, the explosion sending Amanda flying forward. Landing hard, Amanda is knocked unconscious. After Lara kills Natla and destroys the machine, she helps Amanda up who tries to unblock the corridor, but the Wraith Stone was out of juice, just like in Bolivia in Tomb Raider Legend.

Making a remark that now the two of them were going to die in Helheim like Amelia, Lara goes to punch Amanda but stops when she's struck with sudden realization. Finding the stone dais and the Excalibur sword stuck inside, Lara thought that her mother must have tried to use it, but didn't know how. Holding a section of the dais in place, Lara trusts Amanda to pull the sword out and grab Lara's hand in time to send them to safety. Amanda has mixed emotions and briefly thinks about leaving Lara there to exact her revenge, but pulls the sword out and grabs Lara's hand.

The two land in Nepal, where Amelia first pulled out the sword. Lara noticed that Amanda's stone was flaming with power, and asked if killing her would make them even. Amanda considered Lara's words before allowing the stone to dissipate and leaving the temple. It's currently unknown if Lara and Amanda will become friends again, or if this is the last we see of Amanda, if she chooses to drop out of Lara's life for good.
The second is that Arthur received the sword from The Lady of the Lake, who presented it as Excalibur "that is to say as to Cut-Steel" (ref? This quote doesn't make sense.) According to the second legend, as he lay dying, King Arthur requested that one of his trusted knights, Sir Bedivere, throw the sword into the lake. After some initial hesitation, he did so, and the lake re-claimed the sword. The sword was said to be capable of blinding Arthur's enemies, and its scabbard would make its wearer invulnerable to blood loss. (ref?)

In the game, the sword has been split into five pieces which were scattered across the world:

* 2nd Piece - Ghana
The sword is a key to opening two portals, located at Nepal and Tiwanaku, which lead to a mysterious foreign dimension called Avalon. If the sword is pulled out while connected to the portal, the portal will explode, as Lara discovered in Nepal. Each individual piece (except the Ghalali Key) can give the bearer the powers of levitation as well as the ability to produce concentrations of energy, which can be focused and used as a weapon. The pieces can also give the powers of regeneration, thus replenishing the bearer's health. When the sword is pieced together, it can produce balls of energy from its tip, when it is swung. These balls of energy fly with high velocity and are very dangerous. When an enemy is struck by the sword or the balls of energy, they are immediately killed.

In the ending of Tomb Raider Underworld, Lara once again finds Excalibur. She along with Amanda use it with the Stone Diases to return to the same site where Lara's mother accidently enters Helheim or Avalon.
Lara can first kick the rocks available there in order to see what happens. In the Jan Mayen Island level of Underworld the rotating spikes trap is seen before hand though misleads the player into the fact that there are more sets of the spiked cylinders to avoid. The paly must swing on a horizontal pole then stand on top, from this position Lara can make it over.
The sonar cannot create an image of somehing which is behind something else, for example if the player is standing behind a pillar in a reletivly empty room and then activates the sonar, a 3D image of the room in front of the pillar would not be created. This can easily be over come by moveing to a more accessable spot. The medipacks are first aid items used to heal Lara during her adventure. In most casses these item prove as very helpful and sometimes nessicary.

In the Classic Games and The Angel of Darkness, they come in two different sizes:

* Small Medipack
* Large Medipack

In Tomb Raider Legend and onwards there are only one kind of medipack. These kind of medipacks would fully heal Lara's health regardless of damage taken before use. In Tomb Raider Underworld the medipacks appearance would change depending the the level being played. These appearances varied between a red potion in a gold coloured goblet or a small brown bag. The medipacks still give Lara full health no matter what the health looked like.
