The Magnums are much more effective than the normal pistols. Ammo is limited. You shouldn't waste ammo on for example bats or crocodiles that cannot reach you.
The magnums are very useful in fighting Pierre DuPont, Larson, Panther Mummies or the demons in Atlantis.
